Rules

Shuffle the puzzles and the cards. Place both face down. Select a “Banker”. The youngest person goes first. Take a puzzle and turn the timer to start. You must turn the timer at beginning of your turn. If you have attempted an answer without turning it, you lose the rest of your turn. Your turn ends when time runs out or you try for the Silver or Gold.

Win a Bronze (1 point)

1. Guess a horizontal word or the category. 2. Check answer: If correct, you win a Bronze and repeat or, if wrong, fill in the right answer and repeat . 3. When you miss a second answer or time runs out your turn ends.

Win a Silver (5 points)

1. When some but not all horizontal responses have been given you may state “Going for the Silver” and try vertical. 2. Check answer: If correct, you win a Silver, if not, you lose a Bronze and the rest of your turn. 3. You may also win a Silver if you correctly answer the whole puzzle (horizontal and vertical) from beginning to end without missing any answer.

Win a Gold (10 points)

Without attempting any horizontal responses or knowing the category, declare “I am going for the Gold”. Attempt and confirm the vertical. Yes: you win the Gold; No: you lose 2 Bronzes and the rest of your turn.

At end of your turn, you may take a Common Denominator card from the deck. There are:

38 “Happy” cards:

(15) Win extra Bronze (2) Trump card
(6) Win extra Silver (2) Take 1 card from any one player
(3) Win extra Gold (1) Each player gives you a Bronze
(8) Win extra turn (1) You won the Big One – 3 Golds

12 “Sad” cards:

L (5) Lose a Bronze L (2) Lose a turn
L (2) Pass a card to your right L (2) Pass a card to your left
L (1) You lose all your medals

Without looking at a card, you may opt not to take one. If you take one you may choose to keep a “Happy” card for later use or utilize it right then. A “Sad” card must be dealt with at once. Return used cards to the bottom of the deck. Except for the Trump cards, you may only “use” your cards during your turn. A Trump card trumps only one card and must be returned to the bottom of the deck when used.

All answers have a corresponding number in the Answer Booklet. The opponent looks up ONLY the number of an answer tried.

At the beginning of a turn, the player may choose to complete the last puzzle in play or start a new one.

You WIN the game when it is your turn and you can show 100 points without being trumped.
